SOA World Editorial: Defining Terms
It seems like not a day goes by lately in which some new story of malfeasance in office doesn't come out - whether it's lying under oath, using the services of a call girl, or spying on other officials in the government in order to further a personal agenda. Clearly, our elected officials don't have

ZapThink Highlights Intelliun as an Innovator in SOA
Report Describes Intelliun's VE Product as Supporting Essential Best Practices Within The SOA Marketplace

Digg This!

Intelliun announced that it has been highlighted in a recent ZapNote report by ZapThink. The report, entitled “Intelliun Model-Driven Development for Service Oriented Business Applications,” underscores that the model-driven approach of Intelliun’s flagship product, The Virtual Enterprise (VE), is particularly well-suited for SOA-based application development.

According to the report, Intelliun is a vendor to champion Model-Driven Development (MDD). MDD is an approach to application creation that uses visual models to introduce substantial efficiencies and rigor to the software development process. When using the Intelliun approach, application developers use visual models to reduce the time needed to create applications, thus reducing costs and improving software quality. Additionally, the report highlights that Intelliun’s MDD approach is well-suited for both representing the service model as well as creating the underlying implementations of the services that make up the model.

“Intelliun’s innovative and model-driven approach follows an important SOA best practice and a new service-oriented approach to application development, where the components can be rapidly and cost-effectively developed into business processes as needed. Organizations who are struggling with creating service implementations in the context of an abstracted service model, should consider Intelliun for their modeling and application creation environment, “said Jason Bloomberg, Managing Partner at ZapThink. “Because of its model-driven approach, VE is particularly well-suited for SOA-based application development. VE narrows the construction activity to the creation of the abstract design, focusing primarily on the application logic, and relieving the development team from focusing on implementation details. Consequently, VE reduces the number of required skill sets and the overall team size.”

“ZapThink’s recognition of Intelliun as an innovator in the SOA market-space validates Intelliun’s business and marketing strategy. Our powerful VE platform with its model-driven approach emphasizing speed of execution, lower cost development and re-useable components, is the future of SOA application development,” said Sal Abramo, Director of Marketing and New Product Development at Intelliun.

A Little SOA Goes A Long Way
Many organizations make the faulty assumption that SOA is a panacea that can, and should be, applied to every situation. The reality is that service orientation is not the right answer for every scenario. The expense of service orientation cannot always be recouped and, in some cases,
More on the Software Assembly Question - Do Design Patterns Help?
One aspect of the debate over software productivity and assembly is whether or not visual tools can help. I think that they do - visual abstractions can be very meaningful - but I do not know of any visual system that actually solves the complete problem (i.e none have solved the custo

Open source has made significant inroads into middleware deployments in the enterprise. More and more, open source is being used to deliver the benefits of SOA and open source to the enterprise. There are many custom Enterprise Service Bus deployments waiting to be upgraded to a simple
Growing an SOA Garden
Adopting SOA is a lot like gardening. It takes time, skill, a lot of hard work, and the process can be messy and even a bit frustrating at times. I know you've probably heard tons of different analogies that attempt to put SOA and governance into everyday terms and I'm sure that growin
Data Services Modeling: Data Modeling in the SOA Age
Once upon a time data modeling played a central role in the process of developing applications. Thus far in the SOA era, there has been a heavy emphasis on process, and data has all-too-often been lost in the SOA shuffle. In this talk, we present a data model for SOA - i.e., a service-
