SOA World Editorial: Defining Terms
It seems like not a day goes by lately in which some new story of malfeasance in office doesn't come out - whether it's lying under oath, using the services of a call girl, or spying on other officials in the government in order to further a personal agenda. Clearly, our elected officials don't have

DataServices World: The Importance of Middleware and Data Services
Panel Discussion on Data Services at DataServices World, June 24, in New York City

Digg This!

A panel of experts and executives from organizations that are leading providers and consumers of technology will discuss trends and important technologies for enterprise and Internet computing. The experts will discuss the role of databases and database technology trends that enhance SOA and web development. The session will also focus on preferred solutions for architecture and middleware to enable applications and services to access data from SQL and other data sources.

Speaker Bios:

Mark M. Davydov is an internationally recognized expert on software architecture, and software evolution and reuse. Dr. Davydov is the author of over 100 highly acclaimed articles in industry leading publications and vendor technical forums such as IBM developerWorks and Oracle Technical Network. His 2001 book "Corporate Portals and e-Business Integration - A Manager's Guide", introduced many ideas that influenced the progression of Service-Oriented Architecture and the Web Services model. He is a frequent presenter and panel participant at international conferences on software architecture and service-oriented computing, e.g., ICSOC04, WICSA 2004, FinanceCom05, ECIS 2005, WEBIST 2006, etc.

John Goodson is the executive leader of DataDirect Technologies. He is responsible for daily operations, business development, product direction and long-term corporate strategy. Joining DataDirect in 1992 as an engineer, he has since held positions of increasing responsibility in research and development, technical support and marketing. John is a well known and respected industry luminary and data connectivity expert. For more than 10 years, he has worked closely with Sun and Microsoft on the development and evolution of database connectivity standards including J2EE, JDBC, .NET, ODBC and ADO. John has been involved with ANSI H2, the standards committee responsible for the SQL standard and SQL Access Group, which has been responsible for defining call level interfaces for relational databases. He is now actively involved in Java standards committees, including the JDBC Expert Group and Java Rowsets. This active leadership has helped his team develop the most technically advanced database connectivity technologies. John holds a Bachelor of Science in computer science from Virginia Tech.

Mark Hapner is a Sun Distinguished Engineer and is currently SOA Strategist for Sun Software. He helps formulate Sun's SOA and composite application strategy spanning Java Standards, Web Service Standards and Sun products. He is also Sun's WS-I Board Member.

Mark was previously lead architect for Java EE and was responsible for guiding the overall architecture of J2EE 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4. Earlier he was co spec lead of the Enterprise JavaBeans specification and spec lead of the Java Message Service specification.

Ken North (Moderator) is a consultant, software developer, author, speaker, industry analyst and company founder. DataServices World at SOAWorld 2008 (June 24, 2008)

DataServices World (June 24, 2008) is about the confluence of databases, data warehousing, business intelligence, enterprise computing and Internet computing. Its focus is architectures and technologies for accessing data from heterogenous data sources and providing that data to consumers such as components, services and applications.

At DataServices World, chaired by Ken North, we'll uncover architecture and technology solutions for accessing, integrating and processing data from multiple sources while guaranteeing security and scalability. These solutions include robust, high-performance data access middleware, optimized databases, efficient protocol handling, tuned queries and state of the art data services. We'll be looking at technology of interest to CTOs, enterprise architects, system architects, information architects, developers, database gurus, consultants and analysts. Register Early and Save!

SOAWorld Conference & Expo 2008 East
June 23-24, 2008 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City
SOA World Conference & Expo 2008 East brings together the best minds in the business for a two-day conference that offers comprehensive coverage of SOA and what it means to enterprise IT today.

Service-oriented architectures have evolved over the past few years out of the original vision of loosely coupled Web services replacing constrained, stovepiped applications throughout enterprise IT. Every major enterprise technology vendor today has developed its own SOA strategy, supported by innumerable mid-size companies and start-ups offering specific SOA aspects or entire solutions.

Every major enterprise technology vendor today has developed its own SOA strategy, supported by innumerable mid-size companies and start-ups offering specific SOA aspects or entire solutions. This explosive growth in SOA technology is in response to a global demand--IDC estimates that spending on SOA services alone will grow from $8.6 billion to more than $33 billion by 2010.

Manufacturing Semantic Interoperability for a SOA Adaptation Strategy
Interoperability is the ability of two or more systems to work with each other. In the loosely coupled environment of a service-oriented architecture (SOA), separate resources don't have to know how each of them work, but they do need to interoperate with each other by having enough co
