REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Informatica Corporation , a leading provider of data integration software, announced that the Dutch Ministry of Defense has selected the Informatica PowerCenter data integration platform to help access and analyze the large amounts of information from its military forces. The Ministry of Defense has also chosen the Informatica SuperGlue enterprise metadata management solution to integrate, visualize and analyze metadata from its disparate systems. All four units of the Ministry of Defense will be leveraging the Informatica platform, including the Dutch Royal Air Force, the Royal Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Military Police.
"After an intensive selection process, we chose Informatica as our standard data integration platform to help us rapidly implement real-time data warehousing as well as data synchronization solutions that provide greater insight into every element of our organization," said Bert Braanker, project manager at the Ministry of Defense. "We expect a long-term relationship, in which Informatica will contribute considerably to enhancing our data integrity and streamlining the provision of information within the ministry through powerful enterprise-wide data integration and metadata analysis functionality."
The ministry will be implementing Informatica's data integration and metadata management software to help optimize its data processes and integrate data from its mainframe, PeopleSoft, SAP and IBM WebSphere systems. The ministry now has one of the largest SAP installations in the Netherlands. Over the next 5 years it plans to migrate hundreds of applications into SAP R/3 using the PowerCenter platform.
In addition, the ministry has chosen to implement an Integration Competency Center (ICC) approach, which will help reduce the complexity and costs of its data integration efforts. Organizations implementing an ICC, or integration "center of excellence," are dramatically speeding the deployment and reducing the costs of their strategic integration projects by implementing consistent best practices and standards across multiple initiatives, and reusing processes to optimize internal IT services.
"Information is vital to armed forces around the world. We are pleased that the Dutch Ministry of Defense has joined the broad ecosystem of government entities - including many global defense organizations -- that are leveraging Informatica software to help maximize the value of their data," said Dave Berry, senior vice president of EMEA field operations at Informatica. "The ministry's choice not only emphasizes the effectiveness of our products in meeting the data integration needs of a large government organization, but also highlights the reliability and stability of our industry-leading platform for increasingly important data integration initiatives, such as large legacy migrations."
Informatica PowerCenter is an industry-leading enterprise data integration platform, enabling companies to leverage existing information assets for enterprise insight that helps improve business performance, increase customer profitability, streamline supply chain operations and manage regulatory compliance. Informatica SuperGlue is a completely Web-based metadata management solution for assembling, visualizing and analyzing information about data and systems across the enterprise.
The Dutch Ministry of Defense includes the Royal Air Force, Army, Navy and Military Police and currently employs around 70,000 people, with defense expenditures for 2004 amounting to 7.7 billion euros.
