Virtualization - Lehman Raises Its PC Estimates
Good Forecast for the Year 2008-2009
Jul. 28, 2008 02:15 PM
Based on Q2 results, the advent of low-end notebooks and the
fact that the US
market didn’t turn into an oil slick, Lehman Brothers has raised its worldwide
PC forecast.
It expects 2008 to be up 15% from 11.5% (5% growth US, 15%
Europe and 21% emerging markets) and 2009 to be 11.9%, up from 10.1%, (5%
growth US, 12% Europe and 16% emerging markets) with Apple and HP the primary
beneficiaries and pricing not keeping pace with unit growth.
It warns that assembly and transportation have got to be
factored in to the vendors’ total cost. The broker figures 10 million netbooks
will get off this year and assumes a 35% notebook cannibalization rate. It then
estimates netbook sales of 23 million next year and the same cannibalization
rate.
