WSO2 has announced the availability of the open source WSO2
Registry, version 1.1. The WSO2 Registry 1.1 adds comprehensive,
out-of-the-box, service-oriented architecture (SOA) lifecycle management.
Version 1.1 also includes new features for allowing users to encode their own
custom governance rules and policies, as well as validation to ensure that
services match corporate industry interoperability standards. Together with the
WSO2 Registry’s socially enabled interface, the new features facilitate
collaboration in the management, ranking and reuse of enterprise Web services.
The WSO2 Registry 1.1 is being introduced at the 13th International SOA World Conference & Expo 2008 East being held June 23-24, at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York, NY.
In addition to being offered as a standalone solution, Version 1.1 of the WSO2 Registry has been integrated into the WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) 1.7 also being launched today. (For more information, see the WSO2 ESB 1.7 press release dated June 23, 2008.)
WSO2 Registry 1.1 for Out-of-the-Box and Custom SOA Governance
The open source WSO2 Registry features a structured registry
and repository and Web-based interface. With Version 1.1, the Registry adds
out-of-the-box, comprehensive SOA lifecycle management support, including the
ability to define custom lifecycles with conditional state transitions.
Additionally, the WSO2 Registry 1.1 provides three extension points that
provide a flexible, plug-in approach to linking resources and allowing users to
encode their own governance rules and polices. These include “aspects” to define custom behaviors, “filters” to intercept standard behaviors, and “handlers” to decide what to do with them.
Other key features of the Registry 1.1 are:
- Transactional API support to enable the grouping of activities into atomic, consistent isolated and durable (ACID) transactions to guarantee reliable processing.
- Dependency views, which let users track reliance graphs between resources and analyze the impact of changes on dependents.
- Arbitrary association types that link to internal or external resources.
- WSDL validation, including validation of the WS-I Basic Profile specification, to ensure interoperability.
- Enhanced search capabilities to facilitate the ability to search based on tags or advanced criteria.
- Enhanced API, which allows the Registry to be embedded in runtime systems and to support automated governance.
Availability and Support
The WSO2 Registry 1.1 is available for download. As a fully
open source solution released under the Apache License 2.0, the WSO2 Registry
does not carry any software licensing fees. WSO2 offers a range of service and
support options for the Registry. These include support subscriptions,
training, consulting, custom development and development support. For
