Kroll Ontrack announced its ability to perform data recovery
services on VMware systems. Using newly developed proprietary technology, Kroll
Ontrack conceived and developed capabilities specifically designed to recover
folders and files on all types of virtual systems. This capability provides
businesses with a viable resource when data loss occurs in these environments.
Virtualization is a software technology that is transforming
the IT landscape and in turn has created radical changes in computing. While
most of today’s computing hardware was designed to run only one operating
system at a time, virtualization helps businesses overcome this limitation by
allowing a single system to run several operating systems simultaneously,
increasing its usage and flexibility. With virtualization, users of VMware
software save time, money and resources while optimizing and rationalizing
their IT infrastructure. These advantages and savings explain the growing rate
of virtualization in business environments.
While there are space saving, environmental and cost
benefits to virtualization and server consolidation, having all your data in
one place can leave businesses vulnerable to experiencing substantial data
loss. The rise in virtualized environments paired with instances of physical or
operating system failure during configuration has lead to a significant spike in
the amount of virtual environment recovery requests Kroll Ontrack has recently
received.
“The number of virtual environment jobs has increased ten
fold over last year,” said Jeff Pederson, manager of data operations, Kroll
Ontrack. “When virtual infrastructure data loss occurs, identifying the cause
and recovering the data is very complex. This requires deep expertise and
extensive knowledge of VMware environments. Kroll Ontrack has the required
level of knowledge to perform these recoveries and can restore lost business
data in one of our labs, onsite or remotely.”
Specifically, Kroll Ontrack can successfully recover lost
data on the following VMware systems:
- VMware Infrastructure 2 & 3 (ESX Server, VMFS)
- VMware <http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com/server-recovery/> Server
- VMware Workstation (all versions)
Performing recoveries for more than 20 years on all forms of
hard drives, Kroll Ontrack has also developed techniques and tools to
successfully recover from flash media, solid state disk (SSD) and LTO tapes.
Like virtual environments, recoveries from these mediums add a layer of
complexity to the process. Specifically, Kroll Ontrack now has expertise with
all types of flash media and SSD controller chips and can bypass end of tape
markers, which often hinders successful recoveries from these storage devices.
