SOA Mixes Well with AJAX in New York

Some of the best attended sessions at a packed AJAXWorld involved SOA

Some of the best attended sessions at a packed AJAXWorld involved SOA. Scott Kirkwood's 'AJAX Brings SOA to the User' session was crowded on Day One, as was Kurt Cagle's session on 'Data and Syndicated Oriented Architecture (SynOA),' and Ian Tomlin's session 'Code Free Composition - Where SOA and Mashups Converge' was another hit.

Kirkwood, VP of MomentumSI's Software Development Services practice, explained to delegates in the historic Roosevelt Hotel in midtown Manhattan how AJAX-based technologies enable enterprises to fully realize their SOA vision through what he called "Rich Enterprise Applications" (REAs) deployed at the forefront of business.

Cagle's point was how SOAP/WSDL based web services architectures are becoming increasingly obsolete as syndication languages such as Atom are becoming increasingly the primary vectors for more sophisticated data applications - syndication having long been a staple of AJAX development.

But there were far from the only sessions with a strong SOA element. In his well-received General Session on Day Two, Appcelerator's Co-Founder & CEO Jeff Haynie shared with a completely full keynote room in the Grand Ballroom at The Roosevelt his vision of a true open-source solution to enterprise RIA and SOA-based services development.

Other sessions of note were Sharable Enterprise Mashups: The New User-Driven Composite Apps - given by Olivier Poupeney of DreamFace Interactive and Web 2.0 and SOA – Friend or Foe? by Bob Buffone of Nexaweb.
