Cooper, the former chief information officer (CIO) of the American Red Cross and the first CIO of the Department of Homeland Security, will speak at a Planview seminar titled “Portfolio Management Effectiveness in the Federal Government,” in Washington, DC. The seminar is being held on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 from 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and will also feature Vik Balani, former Enterprise Architect in Information Technology (IT) Strategy Management at the American Red Cross. Mr. Cooper and Mr. Balani will share their experiences of having worked with some of the largest government agencies in the U.S. – the American Red Cross and the Department of Homeland Security – to help them successfully implement and benefit from the use of portfolio management software.

Steven I. Cooper was senior vice president and CIO of the American Red Cross. Mr. Cooper was responsible for the IT assets of the American Red Cross and leveraging them to support the humanitarian organization's 35,000 employees and the 300 million Americans they serve. He guided the introduction of a call center during Hurricane Katrina to provide emergency assistance to the more than 4 million people displaced from their homes. |
| Prior to joining the Red Cross, Mr. Cooper was active in the federal government. In February 2003, he was appointed by President George W. Bush as the first CIO of the Department of Homeland Security. |

Vik Balani was most recently the Enterprise Architect in IT Strategy Management for the American Red Cross. Mr. Balani's background spans more than 16 years in government and commercial IT, with extensive experience in enterprise architecture, portfolio management, strategy development, project management, systems integration and implementation and business process re-engineering. He has provided strategic direction, enterprise architecture guidance and budget planning for C-level executives. |
