Very clear case made for the need of web service consumer / web service provider interaction through client and server artifacts. The analogy with VPN is quite convincing. Another positive aspect is the ability to relate such an architecture to business processes in terms of security requirements. The only concern is ease of deployment and runtime performance, but I expect products based on Toufic''s architecture to take care of those concerns.
