VMware Buys Management Software

With Opsware and its management software gone to HP, VMware acquired little-known Swiss-based Dunes Technologies

With Opsware and its management software gone to HP, VMware said Tuesday that it had acquired little-known Swiss-based Dunes Technologies for its server-based process orchestration software for virtual environments. Terms were not disclosed.

VMware said Dunes' VS-O software will let it automate the entire virtual machine lifecycle from requisition to decommissioning.

It is supposed to complement VMware Lab Manager and Virtual Desktop Manager.

Dunes got started in 2001 financed by Affentranger Associates. It has fledging offices in Connecticut.

VMware reportedly wanted to buy Opsware with its IPO money.
