Sybase Techwave 2007: Sybase iAnywhere Recognized as One of Top Three Mobile Middleware Market Leaders

Revenues and market share-results placed the company ahead of most competitors

Sybase iAnywhere was recently recognized by IDC as a worldwide leading provider of mobile middleware. The report, Worldwide Mobile Middleware 2007-2011 Forecast and 2006 Vendor Shares, measured Sybase iAnywhere’s higher revenues and market share-results that placed the company ahead of most competitors.

“Mobile enterprise requirements are growing more sophisticated, evolving from single applications targeting individual devices to applications that mobilize information from a variety of back-end systems,” said Terry Stepien, president of Sybase iAnywhere. “Our position as a mobile middleware market leader ideally positions us to help companies create a strategic advantage by achieving an unwired enterprise that delivers information anytime, anywhere.”

“Increasingly, enterprises are interested in having one platform for mobility. They may not seek to have one vendor for mobile email, another for device management/security, and yet another for mobile voice applications,” said Stephen Drake, IDC program director, Mobile Enterprise programs. “Vendors that are able to offer companies an integrated suite offering with a clear mobile application strategy beyond email will have a leg up on point solution-vendors in the future.”

The worldwide market for mobile middleware software will grow from $683.5 million in 2006 to $1.5 billion in 2011 at a CAGR of 17.8%. IDC defines mobile middleware as a software platform that includes server and/or client software that either extends the reach of existing IP or other mission-critical applications – including groupware, messaging, customer relationship management (CRM), sales force automation (SFA), enterprise resource planning (ERP), host, or other applications – or offers the ability to develop new applications for mobile users leveraging a variety of wireless devices, including laptops, handhelds, interactive pagers, mobile phones, and other converged mobile devices. Mobile middleware may include the platform, front-end applications, and development tools as sold in a single offering.
