Oracle Gobbles Hyperion – Price: $3.3 Billion

Hyperion's business performance management software will be merged into Oracle's own business intelligence (BI) product.

“This will represent the most comprehensive business intelligence line compared to Cognos and Business Objects, who tend to have few analytic applications and no database,” said Oracle president Charles Phillips (pictured) as Oracle today announced its biggest software purchase since Siebel: the $3.3 billion acquisition of Hyperion.

Oracle shares closed up 14 cents yesterday, at $16.43.

In comparison Siebel cost Oracle $5.9 billion, and Peoplesoft $10.3 billion.
