FirstCarbon Delivers Applications Faster Using OutSystems Platform

Meet OutSystems at Cloud Expo New York

OutSystems has announced that FirstCarbon Solutions (FCS) is rapidly delivering new software modules for its Sustainability Workbench platform by using OutSystems to develop web and mobile applications. Part of the ADEC Group, a multinational organization focusing on healthcare, sustainability and education, FCS is using OutSystems Platform to deliver innovative business applications within its portfolio that will provide new levels of flexibility, scalability, service, and support to its customers.

FCS President Robert Francisco comments, "FCS is focused on providing the solutions our clients and partners need to improve their business and operations.  As software is part of our overall solution that also includes professional services and data management and business process outsourcing, we aim to deliver the best possible technology experience for our customers quickly and efficiently.  We want to go beyond a one-size-fits-all approach and provide our customers with more customized, fit-for-purpose applications that are closely matched to their requirements."

During the selection process, FCS evaluated 25 providers, including open-source options. OutSystems and two other vendors were shortlisted for a proof of concept, where the FCS development team was tasked with building an application on each platform in five hours. FCS selected OutSystems Platform because it was easy to use and highly intuitive. The development team was able to build an application with OutSystems Platform much faster than the other platforms.

Scott Darrow, ADEC Group CTO, comments, "We needed a platform that would scale and enable us to develop multiple modules and applications serving thousands of users across diverse product sets.  OutSystems Platform met this requirement and more. OutSystems has given us the ability to produce complex applications in a much shorter period of time. As a result, we are now able to respond more quickly to market trends and develop applications faster than our competitors. Compared to traditional development techniques, I can confidently say that speed to market using OutSystems Platform is at least three times faster."

As part of its decision, FCS required its Sustainability Workbench platform be made available as a public, private or on-premises offering, which OutSystems supports. In addition, OutSystems is an open platform that integrates easily with Eclipse and Visual Studio for weaving in new or existing code. The ability to seamlessly integrate with many of its in-house systems, such as Oracle Financials, BMS, Smart Meters, and a number of custom-built management systems, was another key reason OutSystems was selected.

Darrow added, "We appreciate the OutSystems commercial philosophy combined with its open, agnostic and non-proprietary approach. With OutSystems, it feels like we are working in partnership rather than being locked in to one particular development environment. Because the Platform provides flexibility, versatility, performance, and usability and can be delivered as a platform as a service (PaaS), choosing OutSystems was the right decision for FCS."

SYS-CON Events announced today that DatacenterDynamics has been named “Media Sponsor” of SYS-CON's 18th International Cloud Expo, which will take place on June 7–9, 2016, at the Javits Center in New York City, NY. DatacenterDynamics is a brand of DCD Group, a global B2B media and publishing company that develops products to help senior professionals in the world's most ICT dependent organizations make risk-based infrastructure and capacity decisions.
Most DevOps journeys involve several phases of maturity. Research shows that the inflection point where organizations begin to see maximum value is when they implement tight integration deploying their code to their infrastructure. Success at this level is the last barrier to at-will deployment. Storage, for instance, is more capable than where we read and write data. In his session at @DevOpsSummit at 20th Cloud Expo, Josh Atwell, a Developer Advocate for NetApp, will discuss the role and value...
DevOpsSummit New York 2018, colocated with CloudEXPO | DXWorldEXPO New York 2018 will be held November 11-13, 2018, in New York City. Digital Transformation (DX) is a major focus with the introduction of DXWorldEXPO within the program. Successful transformation requires a laser focus on being data-driven and on using all the tools available that enable transformation if they plan to survive over the long term.

Enterprise architects are increasingly adopting multi-cloud strategies as they seek to utilize existing data center assets, leverage the advantages of cloud computing and avoid cloud vendor lock-in. This requires a globally aware traffic management strategy that can monitor infrastructure health across data centers and end-user experience globally, while responding to control changes and system specification at the speed of today’s DevOps teams. In his session at 20th Cloud Expo, Josh Gray, Chie...
Adding public cloud resources to an existing application can be a daunting process. The tools that you currently use to manage the software and hardware outside the cloud aren’t always the best tools to efficiently grow into the cloud. All of the major configuration management tools have cloud orchestration plugins that can be leveraged, but there are also cloud-native tools that can dramatically improve the efficiency of managing your application lifecycle. Discussions of cloud computing have evolved in recent years from a focus on specific types of cloud, to a world of hybrid cloud, and to a world dominated by the APIs that make today's multi-cloud environments and hybrid clouds possible. In this Power Panel at 17th Cloud Expo, moderated by Conference Chair Roger Strukhoff, panelists addressed the importance of customers being able to use the specific technologies they need, through environments and ecosystems that expose their APIs to make true ...
