Pointsec Unveils New Version of Encryption Software for Linux

Pointsec for Linux 2.0 Offers Support for Remote Help, Single Sign-On and Broader Security

Pointsec, the global leader and the provider of the de facto standard for enterprise security software for laptop and desktop PCs, PDAs and smart phones, today announced the latest version of its endpoint encryption software for Linux desktops and laptops, Pointsec for Linux 2.0. Committed to its continued support of Linux-based operating systems, Pointsec now offers Linux users new features including support for remote help, single sign-on and broader security for all system files starting from a pre-boot authentication.

Pointsec has expanded its products to provide out-of-the-box endpoint encryption software for standard Linux kernels on desktops and laptops, reducing both cost and risk for organizations. The newest version of Pointsec for Linux continues to provide an endpoint encryption solution with an even lower total cost of ownership, through improved usability and management features that ease the burden on administrators. With its support for standard Linux kernels, users and administrators are not required to rebuild the kernel in order to work with Pointsec for Linux 2.0.

"As we see a wider adoption of Linux-based operating systems in the industry and within our customer-base, we remain committed to providing a strong endpoint encryption solution that meets their needs," said Peter Larsson, CEO of Pointsec. "By adding features such as remote support, we continue to provide the Linux community with an encryption solution that reduces both cost and risk. Supporting more platforms than any other solution available today, Pointsec is dedicated to providing our customers with powerful, centrally managed full-disk encryption to create an advanced enterprise security solution."

Through the new support for remote help feature, Pointsec for Linux 2.0 allows users to reset their password through the help desk and regain access to their system. This feature combats a common problem of forgotten passwords and lowers an organization's total cost of ownership by easing operational cost and potential downtime while retaining the security provided by role- based administration.

Pointsec understands that usability is key to making a security policy enforceable and Pointsec for Linux 2.0 now offers a single sign-on feature that provides full capability to use Pointsec pre-boot login credentials to login to Linux. Additionally, Pointsec for Linux 2.0 provides broader security for all system files starting from a pre-boot authentication. Pointsec for Linux 2.0 also includes an updated user interface that allows customization of the login screen to match enterprise security requirements.

Pointsec for Linux is available today.
