VOO and SeaChange Win Cable Europe’s 2013 Innovation Award

The annual Cable Congress in London last week awarded the 2013 Cable Europe Innovation Award to VOO and SeaChange International (NASDAQ: SEAC) for VOO’s innovative multi-screen video service VOOmotion. Launched in December 2012 and now available to VOO’s triple-play customers across Belgium, VOOmotion is founded on SeaChange’s Adrenalin video platform and Nitro subscriber experience software.

Award-winning highlights of VOOmotion (http://www.voomotion.be/):

- full HTML5-based service with intuitive navigation for tablets, smartphones and PCs;

- access to 40 live TV channels and thousands of video-on-demand titles;

- customers can switch anytime from any screen to another, including TV, buying a movie or an event on one screen, start to watch it on another screen, continue to watch it on yet another screen;

- pay-per-event capability whereby customers can order individual football matches of the Belgian Premier League.

The Cable Europe Innovation Award winner was determined by the attendees of Cable Congress 2013, having selected VOO and SeaChange’s entry out of several innovations by leading European cable operators. Cable Europe is the trade association that connects leading broadband cable TV operators and their national trade associations throughout the European Union.

“VOOmotion stands out as a shining example of innovation that keeps the European cable industry dynamic and responsive to the competition of incumbent telco operators,” said Peter Percosan, Managing Director of Cable Europe Labs.

“VOOmotion perfectly responds to an increasing demand from our customers to have access to any kind of video on multiple screens in the home or while on the move using VOO’s WiFi network,” said Nico Weymaere, Chief Technology Officer, VOO.

“VOO has done an outstanding job with the introduction of VOOmotion and SeaChange is proud to be part of that success. VOOmotion is an excellent example of how the market knowledge of VOO as an operator, combined with the technological knowledge of SeaChange, results in a multi-screen video service that’s highly appreciated by VOO’s customers and industry peers,” said Andrei Noppe, Senior Vice President and General Manager, EMEA and APAC, SeaChange.

Based on an open service-oriented architecture, the SeaChange Adrenalin™ software is a comprehensive multi-screen video platform that enables service providers to manage, monetize and deliver a seamless video experience to subscribers across devices. The SeaChange Nitro™ subscriber experience application enables video service providers to make a seamless presentation of linear and on-demand content across devices with services including catch-up TV, search, recommendations, bookmarking, TV listings and social media. Taking the role of lead integrator on VOOmotion, SeaChange worked with third-party partners including ATES Networks and RGB Networks.

SeaChange will demonstrate Adrenalin and Nitro at the TV Connect conference in London, March 19-21. Adrenalin is shortlisted for a 2013 TV Connect Industry Award in the category of Best Service Delivery Platform for IPTV & OTT. Nitro is shortlisted in the award category of Best Multi-screen Solution.

Between 2005 and 2020, data volumes will grow by a factor of 300 – enough data to stack CDs from the earth to the moon 162 times. This has come to be known as the ‘big data’ phenomenon. Unfortunately, traditional approaches to handling, storing and analyzing data aren’t adequate at this scale: they’re too costly, slow and physically cumbersome to keep up. Fortunately, in response a new breed of technology has emerged that is cheaper, faster and more scalable. Yet, in meeting these new needs they...

In IT, we sometimes coin terms for things before we know exactly what they are and how they’ll be used. The resulting terms may capture a common set of aspirations and goals – as “cloud” did broadly for on-demand, self-service, and flexible computing. But such a term can also lump together diverse and even competing practices, technologies, and priorities to the point where important distinctions are glossed over and lost.

Logs are continuous digital records of events generated by all components of your software stack – and they’re everywhere – your networks, servers, applications, containers and cloud infrastructure just to name a few. The data logs provide are like an X-ray for your IT infrastructure. Without logs, this lack of visibility creates operational challenges for managing modern applications that drive today’s digital businesses.
Monitoring of Docker environments is challenging. Why? Because each container typically runs a single process, has its own environment, utilizes virtual networks, or has various methods of managing storage. Traditional monitoring solutions take metrics from each server and applications they run. These servers and applications running on them are typically very static, with very long uptimes. Docker deployments are different: a set of containers may run many applications, all sharing the resource...

DevOps is being widely accepted (if not fully adopted) as essential in enterprise IT. But as Enterprise DevOps gains maturity, expands scope, and increases velocity, the need for data-driven decisions across teams becomes more acute. DevOps teams in any modern business must wrangle the ‘digital exhaust’ from the delivery toolchain, "pervasive" and "cognitive" computing, APIs and services, mobile devices and applications, the Internet of Things, and now even blockchain. In this power panel at @...
