Mashery Accelerates the Extensible Enterprise With Full API Management for Web Service Technology Environments

Reseller Agreement With Intel Offers Enterprises Best-in-Class Enterprise API Management Solution, Bridges Gaps Between Data, Developers

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/01/12 -- Mashery, the leading provider of API Management platforms and services, today announced a new version of its API Management platform and a reseller agreement with Intel that enables enterprises to use existing XML gateways or other web service technologies to quickly join the API movement. The new Mashery API Management solution for web service technology environments allows enterprises to extend the value of those existing software investments by using APIs to reduce success barriers for any business team driving new partnerships, market channels and internal innovation. To take this solution to market, Mashery is entering a reseller agreement with Intel for its new Intel® Expressway API Manager that combines API sharing from Mashery with secure back end application integration from Intel.

Strategic initiatives in today's extensible enterprise rely on a growing number of partners, as well as mobile and connected devices to drive success. Today's innovative enterprises are meeting this need by increasingly enabling their customers and partners with business processes and services in the cloud. Gartner predicts that 20 percent of non-IT Fortune 500 companies will be cloud service providers by 2015(1). APIs thus play a critical role in how these companies are becoming data-powered business platforms and content publishers, in their own right. APIs also give enterprises the ability to rapidly generate a platform effect by scaling and syndicating services for accelerated strategic business growth.

"IT and business leaders alike are under increasing pressure to tailor web service access for the demands of mobile workforces, and to the requirements of business development opportunities," said Chris Lippi, VP, Product. "At the same time, IT has anchored existing security and business policies in existing web service technology investments and proven business workflows, controls and visibility. Mashery's new solution allows enterprises to maintain existing web services investments while rapidly deploying a SaaS-based API platform, developer portal and management software. This partnership with Intel offers their customers these benefits."

Mashery's first reseller partnership with a gateway or web service technology vendor helps address the extended focus of SOA Governance identified by Gartner Research in its 2011 Magic Quadrant for SOA Governance Technologies. "This extended focus of SOA governance on a multiyear set of projects has caused sharp changes in the positions of a few vendors that have not extended their coverage either through a direct offering or a partnership."(2)

As a result of the agreement, the Intel® Expressway API Manager offers API management features along with the Intel Expressway Gateway back-end technology for run-time management, enabling self-service partner onboarding and rich API analytics. This solution enables enterprises to use the on-premise back-end integrations from Intel and seamlessly integrate features of Mashery's multitenant SaaS API Management platform to expose APIs to the cloud, to developers and for apps.

"The Intel® Expressway API Manager platform developed in collaboration with Mashery offers the enterprise simplified API sharing with developer communities and deep back-end integration to securely expose legacy application assets and data," said Girish Juneja, general manager and chief technology officer for Intel's Data Center Software Division. "The composite solution will help accelerate how quickly enterprises can repackage and monetize application assets to cloud and mobile environments."

Mashery's new solution for on-premise web services technologies allows enterprises in any stage of mobility or API deployment to begin fuelling business development, affiliate programs, cross-organizational and external innovation via partners, developers or employees. By leveraging the governance and integration strengths of existing Web service technology investments, enterprises can simply augment current SOA governance and gateway capabilities to:

  • Quickly onboard partner, customer and internal developers using existing identity and entitlement programs.
  • Create APIs with leading standards applied for onboarding (documentation), security (OAuth), and testing (API Explorer).
  • Streamline any number of channel integrations with myriad devices.
  • Create context-aware enterprise mobility strategies that can present data in unlimited contexts, such as time and place, to gather critical business intelligence.
  • Provide business users a simple Web tool to control data access, rate, throttling and type for any developer, customer, partner or prospect without issuing routine IT help tickets.
  • Give business users rich reporting and analytics to help treat APIs as products.

Even though it’s now Microservices Journal, long-time fans of SOA World Magazine can take comfort in the fact that the URL – soa.sys-con.com – remains unchanged. And that’s no mistake, as microservices are really nothing more than a new and improved take on the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) best practices we struggled to hammer out over the last decade. Skeptics, however, might say that this change is nothing more than an exercise in buzzword-hopping. SOA is passé, and now that people are ...

You often hear the two titles of "DevOps" and "Immutable Infrastructure" used independently. In his session at DevOps Summit, John Willis, Technical Evangelist for Docker, will cover the union between the two topics and why this is important. He will cover an overview of Immutable Infrastructure then show how an Immutable Continuous Delivery pipeline can be applied as a best practice for "DevOps." He will end the session with some interesting case study examples.

Cloud services are the newest tool in the arsenal of IT products in the market today. These cloud services integrate process and tools. In order to use these products effectively, organizations must have a good understanding of themselves and their business requirements. In his session at 15th Cloud Expo, Brian Lewis, Principal Architect at Verizon Cloud, outlined key areas of organizational focus, and how to formalize an actionable plan when migrating applications and internal services to the ...
Most companies hope for rapid growth so it's important to invest in scalable core technologies that won't demand a complete overhaul when a business goes through a growth spurt. Cloud technology enables previously difficult-to-scale solutions like phone, network infrastructure or billing systems to automatically scale based on demand. For example, with a virtual PBX service, a single-user cloud phone service can easily transition into an advanced VoIP system that supports hundreds of phones and ...
For those of us that have been practicing SOA for over a decade, it's surprising that there's so much interest in microservices. In fairness microservices don't look like the vendor play that was early SOA in the early noughties. But experienced SOA practitioners everywhere will be wondering if microservices is actually a good thing. You see microservices is basically an SOA pattern that inherits all the well-known SOA principles and adds characteristics that address the use of SOA for distribut...
Microservices are the result of decomposing applications. That may sound a lot like SOA, but SOA was based on an object-oriented (noun) premise; that is, services were built around an object - like a customer - with all the necessary operations (functions) that go along with it. SOA was also founded on a variety of standards (most of them coming out of OASIS) like SOAP, WSDL, XML and UDDI. Microservices have no standards (at least none deriving from a standards body or organization) and can be b...
In today's digital world, change is the one constant. Disruptive innovations like cloud, mobility, social media, and the Internet of Things have reshaped the market and set new standards in customer expectations. The Internet of Things (IoT) promises to evolve the way the world does business; however, understanding how to apply it to your company can be a mystery. Most people struggle with understanding the potential business uses or tend to get caught up in the technology, resulting in solutions that fail to meet even minimum business goals. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Jesse Shiah, CEO / President / Co-Founder of AgilePoint Inc., showed what is needed to leverage the IoT to transform your business. ...
It's 2:15pm on a Friday, and I'm sitting in the keynote hall at PyCon 2013 fidgeting through a succession of lightning talks that have very little relevance to my life. The truth is, today’s databases are anything but agile – they are effectively static repositories that are cumbersome to work with, difficult to change, and cannot keep pace with application demands. Performance suffers as a result, and it takes far longer than it should to deliver new features and capabilities needed to make your organization competitive. As your application and business needs change, data repositories and structures get outmoded rapidly, resulting in increased work for applica...
