Oracle Unveils Event-Driven Middleware Suite: Next-Generation of SOA

Enables Real-Time Response to Rapidly Changing Business and Market Conditions

Oracle has announced immediate availability of the industry's first integrated, standards-based product offering to help organizations build, deploy and manage event-driven applications, based on an Event-Driven Architecture (EDA). Oracle Event-Driven Architecture Suite is comprised of best-in-class Oracle Fusion Middleware products that allow customers to sense, identify, analyze and respond to business events in real-time. EDA is a key component of SOA 2.0, the next-generation of service-oriented architecture (SOA) that defines how events and services are linked together to deliver a truly flexible and responsive IT infrastructure.

Organizations using an EDA can gain a competitive advantage by responding more rapidly to changing business conditions. Current infrastructures for processing and managing events, however, are limited and require complex and expensive software engineering. Oracle EDA Suite includes a design time environment to easily define and correlate events; Oracle Enterprise Service Bus to collect and distribute events; Oracle Business Rules to define business policies on events; Oracle Business Activity Monitoring to monitor and analyze Business Events; and pre-built solutions for Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and other systems.

Companies in a broad range of industries - including financial services, commercial banking, securities trading, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, retail, government and manufacturing - can now use Oracle EDA Suite to become a real-time enterprise by enabling them to build, deploy and manage EDAs. Leading manufacturing and distribution companies are using EDAs to optimize supply chain and vendor management; leading retailers are using EDAs to optimize inventory management using RFID; and global financial services institutions are using EDAs to optimize financial positions and hedging strategies in the financial markets.

"As mainstream enterprises begin to adopt service-oriented architecture on a broad scale, they are beginning to see a need for another complementary design approach - event-driven architecture," said Roy Schulte, vice president and Distinguished Analyst, Gartner. "Enterprises striving to improve their responsiveness are leveraging event-driven applications to respond quickly and precisely to rapidly changing conditions."

Leveraging Oracle Fusion Middleware's hot-pluggable architecture, Oracle EDA Suite is interoperable with Oracle Containers for J2EE and non-Oracle application servers including BEA WebLogic Server, IBM WebSphere Application Server and JBoss Application Server along with messaging buses such as Oracle Advanced Queuing, SonicMQ, Tibco Enterprise JMS and WebSphereMQ. The offering includes native support to create, process, analyze and manage events and provides a flexible, declarative environment to rapidly build and adapt event-driven applications. Oracle EDA Suite consists of the following products:

*Oracle Business Activity Monitoring - defines and analyzes event and event patterns;

*Oracle Enterprise Service Bus - routes and distributes events between applications with no coding required;

*Oracle Sensor Edge Server - captures, filters and manages events from physical sensors and automation equipment, including RFID;

*Oracle Enterprise Messaging - delivers event messages reliably with configurable qualities-of-service; and

*Oracle Business Rules - provides more flexible event routing and distribution via a high performance rules engine.

Oracle's EDA Capabilities Deliver Customer Benefits Today
Cattles, one of the providers of financial services products to the non standard consumer credit market in the UK, chose to work with Oracle partner Griffiths Waite (GW) to build an adaptive application processing platform to support their expansion into new markets, as well as an ambitious partner program.
