Usually start-ups hit the radar with their 1.0 flagship release. RackWare, founded in 2009, waited for the 2.0 release of its Management Module (RMM) on Tuesday.
It's apparently been too busy helping IT teams at Macy's, Citi, Reuters, Amazon and SunGard take full advantage of their clouds to publicly enter the cloud infrastructure market, unveiling software that enables users to build any type of cloud - public, private or hybrid - without requiring application or operational changes.
The RMM widgetry is supposed to let users leverage their existing investments in infrastructure and applications and get four times greater availability and reliability in the process.

The idea is to give the enterprise the highest-performing cloud throughout its applications lifecycle. The promise includes mobility, elasticity, agility, freedom from vendor lock-in and low-cost not to mention the "unique" automation and intelligent layers - added in 2.0 - that deliver the right resources to applications at the right time.
Voilà, an on-demand enterprise cloud.
Besides RMM, RackWare released three supporting automated solutions for scaling/bursting/parking, client on-boarding and disaster recovery in the cloud.
RMM is described as a holistic solution that lets data centers evolve toward a stateless compute model. The start-up says the platform can be used to provision applications with their associated resources objects - operating systems, network, storage - to bare metal systems, hypervisors and cloud service providers - creating an end-to-end utility computing service.
