Commercial open-source sotware company SugarCRM co-founder Clint Oram (pictured) will also deliver a session entitled, "The Secret Ingredient to a Successful Open Source Project," at the Enterprise Open Source Conference & Expo, being produced by SYS-CON Events June 5-6 in New York."When re-thinking the manufacturing process of enterprise software, most companies nowadays determine to leverage open source to boost popularity and attention onto their product lines," said Oram. "But converting projects into products is not easy, and some secret ingredients that aren't covered in the code sharing are vital for generating future success.
"These key ingredients are how the project is built, the architecture of the enterprise software to be modular and open, a clear vision and definition of what the project and product will deliver, a clear separation between the open source aspects and the commercial aspects, and, most important, trust from the community that the project at every stage in life is extremely beneficial to their daily needs and will continue to be so with the future direction."
SugarCRM has also announced that it will be one of the four platinum sponsors of the event, which is colocated with the SOA Web Services Edge Conference & Epo.
Oram, one of the three co-founders of the company, is general manager of SugarCRM and in charge of Sugar Online. He led the product design as well as the customer services team through the first year of business. He is now responsible for managing SugarCRM's community and SugarForge.org, the premiere destination for community collaboration on Sugar Suite extensions, modules, language packs and themes.
SugarForge.org empowers the community to leverage the combined ideas of developers around the world by offering the toolset and location to manage and distribute new community-developed Sugar Suite extensions to the benefit of all SugarCRM users. In addition, SugarForge.org offers a range of support for those who need assistance with Sugar Suite development or implementation.
