"Sun CEO Scott McNealy and Google CEO Dr. Eric Schmidt take the stage at the Computer History Museum on October 4 at 10:30 AM PT to discuss joint activities." That, in total, is the announcement currently up on the Sun web site.
What will they announce? The industry guessing naturally began immediately.
One clue may perhaps be found in the last blog entry from Jonathan Schwartz, Sun's president, COO, and Blogger Extraordinary. Here it is in all its tantalizing, allusive glory:
"[V]alue is returning to the desktop applications, and not simply through Windows Vista. But in the form of applications that are network service platforms. From the obvious, to music sharing clients and development tools, there's a resurgence of interest in resident software that executes on your desktop, yet connects to network services. Without a browser. Like Skype. Or QNext. Or Google Earth. And Java? OpenOffice and StarOffice? At 10:30AM PT, we'll see if Schwartz wins the bet.If I were a betting man, I'd bet the world was about to change."
