Meru Networks, Inc., a pioneer in 802.11n enterprise networking, announced today that its customer Halifax Health Systems, a facilitator of specialized healthcare services in East Central Florida, received an InfoWorld 100 Award for deploying one of the 100 best information technology (IT) projects of 2009. Halifax’s wireless LAN (WLAN) infrastructure employs Meru Networks high-performance 802.11n technology as the foundation for wireless connectivity in their new 500,000 square foot state-of-the-art medical facility in Daytona Beach, Florida.
In order to increase the mobility, productivity, and patient treatment accuracy, of its medical staff, Halifax utilizes Meru’s unique virtual-cell architecture to enable the medical center to use innovative technology devices and services from Motion C5, Siemens, Vocera, and Nortel, including wireless connectivity for "Workstations on Wheels" mobile workstations that support such applications as electronic medical records (EMR), bedside bar-code scanning for drug-dosage verification, and remote video interpreting for hard-of-hearing patients. Unlike legacy wireless architectures, Meru’s virtual-cell wireless architecture is designed for continuous and reliable connectivity, allowing Halifax to utilize these devices in a time critical environment to decrease costs and increase overall efficiency and patient uptime.
“This year's recipients of InfoWorld's highest honor are shining examples of IT projects undertaken by tech leaders committed to pushing their organizations forward,” said Jason Snyder, features editor, InfoWorld.
Companies around the world rely on technology to enable and enhance their business operations and deliver on their business strategies. The InfoWorld 100 Awards recognize each year the 100 most innovative uses of IT initiatives to further business goals and acknowledges the achievements of IT projects that exemplify intelligent, creative uses of technology to meet business and technical objectives.
“We’re honored to accept the InfoWorld 100 award and pleased with the recognition for designing and employing an architecture that will support our next-generation healthcare initiatives,” said Tripp Sills, network architect, Halifax Health Systems. “Using reliable and effective technology, we are not only able to improve communication within our healthcare facility, but can expect to deliver unprecedented care to the majority of East Central Florida. We anticipate that our ability to adapt to innovative solutions will provide other healthcare providers with a stellar example of the benefits that can be gained from successful hospital technology implementations in the years to come.”
