White paper will focus on benefits of adopting Business Ecology
NEEDHAM, Mass., Nov. 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Members of OMG's(TM) Business Ecology(TM) Initiative (BEI) and The Standish Group will be collaborating on the creation of an industry white paper on the benefits of adopting the principles of Business Ecology. The white paper is scheduled to be complete in the first quarter of 2010 and will be published on both the BEI and Standish Group websites. The two organizations will also host a webcast to discuss and present the final results. Organizations interested in participating in the BEI, or for more information, should visit www.business-ecology.org.

Business Ecology is focused on bringing together best practices in process management towards an optimized, efficient and sustainable business. Both The Standish Group and BEI focus on helping companies' business and Information Technology (IT) organizations collaborate. Business Ecology is a means to help IT become a ubiquitous, integral and vital asset to the company and lead decision-making, structural change and enterprise-wide quality initiatives, drive efficiency and revenue, and provides measurable, clear return on investment.
Taking a business process focus, the combined white paper will show the benefits companies may achieve through a Business Ecology approach, which combines service oriented architecture (SOA), business process management (BPM), sustainability, standards and more. Standish Group research shows that twenty-six percent of all business processes are redundant. The payoff and return on investment for eliminating duplicate and unnecessary functions is very compelling. This is just one example of how a focus on business processes can provide great benefit to corporations.
"We are very excited that The Standish Group has agreed to provide a research backbone for our Business Ecology white paper. Together with our members' experiences, this combination will provide us with some great insight on how useful a focus on business processes can be in terms of ROI and efficiency," says Karen Larkowski, Executive Director of the Business Ecology Initiative.
"The 'Trends in Business Ecology' study will identify the top benefits along with their elements to provide a holistic view of this emerging movement," said Jim Johnson, Chairman, The Standish Group. "Each element will identify a specific action to be addressed and its benefits when considering implementation of business ecology initiative."
