WSO2, the open source SOA company, today announced the launch of the WSO2 Cloud Platform. Available today, the new WSO2 Cloud Platform features a family of WSO2 Cloud Virtual Machines; WSO2 Cloud Connectors for enabling fast, secure cloud services; and the multi-tenant WSO2 Governance-as-a-Service.
TIBCO Software is also working to offer a similar SOA platform in the Cloud but TIBCO does not have concrete details yet.
All WSO2 Cloud Platform services are based on open software standards, and they support all applicable interoperable protocols, as well as relevant open data standards. Additionally, they allow users to take complete control of their data, ensuring that enterprises can protect and preserve their information.

WSO2 Cloud Virtual Machines
All WSO2 SOA products are now available as WSO2 Cloud Virtual Machines running on the Amazon Elastic Computing Cloud (EC2) and also as VMWare ESX virtual machines. The products provide IT developers the convenience of simple deployment and zero configuration, and the ability to automatically scale as the load increases. For EC2 virtual machines, they also offer a cost-effective, pay-as-you-go fee structure that includes product support. WSO2 is delivering Cloud Virtual Machine versions of the WSO2 Web Services Application Server (WSAS), WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), WSO2 Governance Registry, WSO2 Data Services Server, WSO2 Identity Server, WSO2 Business Process Server (BPS), and WSO2 Mashup Server. Developers also can continue to download these open source software products at no cost.
WSO2 Cloud Connectors
Two new WSO2 Cloud Connector products enable IT developers to provide fast, secure cloud services: WSO2 Cloud Services Gateway and WSO2 Service Accelerator. Each product is comprised of two parts — a cloud virtual machine and a component that runs locally within the enterprise — to communicate between enterprise systems and the cloud. Developers who sign up for either service are provided a link to download the component that runs in-house.
WSO2 Cloud Services Gateway (CSG) provides a managed, secure gateway between the cloud and services in the enterprise, effectively creating a secure tunnel into the enterprise from the cloud. Applications of WSO2 CSG include protecting APIs, providing a firewall for services, ensuring private data access, outsourcing computations, and offering security verification. It is available as a WSO2 Cloud Virtual Machine, which makes it easy to publish services from any WSO2 SOA middleware in the enterprise. As with other WSO2 Cloud Virtual Machines, the WSO2 CSG is charged on a pay-as-you-go basis. WSO2 also is offering a public WSO2 Cloud Service Gateway available at no cost to developers who want to experiment with WSO2 CSG.
WSO2 Service Accelerator decouples quality of service (QOS) processing from back-end services and plugs the services into a layer that can process messages under high throughput. WSO2 Service Accelerator is powered by the WSO2 Web Services Framework for C++ (WSF/C++), which takes advantage of the C++ language’s ability to run anywhere from 5 to 15 times faster than Java. It is available as a WSO2 Cloud Virtual Machine for both public and private cloud deployment.
WSO2 Governance-as-a-Service
WSO2 empowers IT professionals to manage governance in the cloud with WSO2 Governance-as-a-Service, the multi-tenant, hosted version of the WSO2 Governance Registry. Each company can configure its own Governance Registry with no software set-up. Each tenant (domain) can have its own theme and manage its own user community. Tenants optionally can publish some data publicly, for example business-to-business service entries. The completely self-service WSO2 Governance-as-a-Service is available directly from WSO2.
WSO2 Governance-as-a-Service is a structured registry and repository with comprehensive SOA lifecycle management support that lets users define custom lifecycles with conditional state transitions. It offers well-defined extension points for a flexible, plug-in approach to linking resources and allowing users to encode their own governance rules and polices. A governance dashboard provides runtime and design-time monitoring, while eventing and notification support is available through the application of business rules. Together with its socially enabled interface, these capabilities facilitate collaboration in the management, ranking and reuse of enterprise Web services — locally or in the cloud.
WSO2 Governance-as-a-Service is the first in a complete family of “*-as-a-Service” solutions that WSO2 plans to launch over the next several months.
WSO2 Governance-as-a-Service was built with multi-tenant enabled versions of the core WSO2 Carbon framework — used for deploying, running and managing services on the WSO2 Carbon componentized SOA platform — and the WSO2 Governance Registry product. Once the entire WSO2 Carbon platform is multi-tenant enabled, the resulting WSO2 Cloud Middleware platform will allow anyone to build multi-tenant, cloud-based services and applications using WSO2 SOA middleware technology. The full middleware platform will be rolled out in the course of the next few months with support for data management, identity and security management, service management, user interfaces and portals, billing and metering, and management and monitoring.
