Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a global provider of application infrastructure software used to develop, deploy, integrate and manage business applications, today launched FUSE™ Forge, a collaborative environment for developing open source projects based on Progress® FUSE™ products.
The Progress FUSE product line includes productized versions of Apache ServiceMix, ActiveMQ, CXF and Camel. FUSE components are standards-based, open source enterprise integration tools based on popular Apache SOA projects, and are productized and supported by the people who contribute to and influence the Apache projects. Progress developers lead these Apache communities and contribute to the development of the code.
The FUSE Forge (fusesource.com/forge) is a web-based community that facilitates project management, communication, and coordination of integration infrastructure projects by providing a development environment complete with an integrated set of tools, including:
- Source code control with Subversion or Git
- Continuous builds with Maven
- Issue tracking with JIRA
- Wikis with Confluence
- File sharing with WebDAV
- Automation for project statistics and mailing lists
Access to these tools as well as an active community to develop and test code are key benefits for projects hosted on FUSE Forge.
In the FUSE Forge, developers can create and run a project, participate as a committer in one or more projects, and browse the growing library of components designed for FUSE. As part of Progress’ commitment to Open Integration, the FUSE engineering team has moved all internal development to the Forge.
"We wish to create a new type of relationship with our customers based on the principles of Open Integration - a relationship that is built on openness and transparency so IT organizations can be assured of vendor independency now and in the future," said Ken Rugg, vice president and general manager, Integration Infrastructure products, Progress Software.
In addition to the FUSE products, the FUSE team has added new projects to the Forge to help developers build and deploy FUSE-related infrastructure:
- FUSE Depot (http://depot.fusesource.org/) - FUSE Depot is a web-based tool for provisioning distributed applications on Apache Tomcat and FUSE ESB, our certified distribution of Apache ServiceMix. With FUSE Depot, developers can assemble bundles and libraries into applications, assign those applications to containers, and schedule deployments from a central web console.
- RestMQ (restmq.fusesource.org) - RestMQ defines an open, easy to integrate, loosely coupled, technology-independent and interoperable messaging protocol so developers can use a web browser or on the command line to reliably send and consume messages.
- Management (management.fusesource.org) - A set of FUSE management extensions using JMX and REST, visualized using FUSE HQ.
- Actional Diagnostics (adg.fusesource.org) - Actional Diagnostics, currently a closed-source solution, helps developers build, test and deliver Web services for SOA, REST and POX by reducing the complexity of XML to make testing easy and accessible early in the product life cycle.
“With the reduced barriers to entry that open source provides, we are seeing rapid growth in the number of applications using FUSE open source products,” added Rugg. “FUSE Forge creates a development environment so users can focus on their applications, and not the development infrastructure.”
