Well, look who Citrix has tied up with. Arista Networks where Sun co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim retreated after he left Sun for the second time.
Bechtolsheim started Arista with his buddy, Stanford professor David Cheriton; the two of them were the first investors in Google.
Anyway, Citrix and Arista, which does 10 gigabit Ethernet switches and has started to chase the cloud, say they are working on cloud networking solutions for large datacenter and cloud service provider environments.
They're going to test and integrate the Citrix NetScaler VPX virtual appliance with Arista's 7000 series switch. They aim to deliver a cloud networking solution married to wire-rate, high-density 10G switching with proven L4-7 application delivery services.
Arista's platform is based on a new software architecture with self-healing properties and live in-service software upgrade capabilities that starts with its Extensible Operating System (EOS).
Arista is Bechtolsheim's second gigabit Ethernet start-up. The first, Granite Systems was sold to Cisco, where Bechtolsheim developed the Catalyst 4500 family.
